Sundance Fest Director in Krakow
The Artistic Director of Sundance Film Festival.
The current Director of the Sundance Film Festival, one of the most important events in independent cinema, will be a member of the the Off Plus Camera Jury.
Before taking up the role as Sundance Film Festival Artistic Director in March 2009, John Cooper was the festival’s Programming Director. He has worked with the non-profit Sundance Institute since 1989, eight years after it was founded by Robert Redford, and his role has been pivotal to the advancement of both the institute and the festival.
Cooper has played a major part in the festival’s embrace of new technologies, investment in its website, and development of a program that now enables viewers from all over the world to participate in festival events via the internet. He has launched the distribution of short films through strategic relationships with iTunes, Netflix, and Xbox 360 platforms, and he works in support of the Art House Project, an initiative aimed at showing festival films in various art house cinemas. He is also the creator of the Global Short Film Project, which gathers independent filmmakers from all over the world to promote their work. And, most significantly, it is thanks to his support that the Sundance Film Festival has initiated a partnership with another film event – the Off Plus Camera Festival in Krakow.
