„Making Way” competition – worth the fight

American director Azazel Jacobs.

”Making Way” is the leading theme of the feature film contest, which has been the most important part of the OFF PLUS CAMERA festival from its very start. This is no coincidence, for promotion of young, beginning filmmakers from all over the world has always been the Festival's priority. The main prize of 100,000 dollars, awarded by an international jury, is meant to make their career easier and help them realise their next film.

American director Azazel Jacobs and Sebstian Silva from Chile, who won the previous OFF PLUS CAMERA editions (for ”Momma's Man” and ”La Nana” respectively), are perfect examples to illustratie the Krakow's festival idea. After winning the award, Jacobs praised its importance: „Now I'll be able to make a truly independent film, not worrying about how I'm going to get the money and then sell it.”

As in previous years, 12 feature films from around the world will compete for this year's Krakow Film Award. Among them will be mainly debuts or second films in the directors' careers. Carefully selected titles will show what's most interesting, important and actual in current cinema . All this is possible thanks to our selectors' visits to the biggest film festivals  – in Park City, Las Vegas, Pusan, Berlin and Rotterdam  – which resulted in bringing their cream back to Krakow. How will it affect the upcoming edition of the  festival? We're going to find out very soon now.

Apart from the main prize, presented by an international jury of the OFF PLUS CAMERA, there're two more rewards waiting for the competing films. Funded by Noble Bank, these are: Polish Film Nobel (10,000 dollars) given by the accredited journalists and audience award (20,000 dollars). Let's face it – it's  absolutely worth the fight!
